Thurso-Tongue

After testing the waterproof-ness of the tent we then checked the rest of the gear on a wet ride out of Thurso.

After taking in the major tourist site of Dunreay, the weather started to clear up and we had a sunny lunch by the side of the road (see previous post).

The weather kept improving and some great views emerged out the mist. We enjoyed a positively sunny afternoon riding before the Kyle of Tongue appeared around the corner.

Arriving in Tongue, we had a quick stop at the local shop to check directions for the YHA and buy a couple of beers. Learning that there was also a campsite and with the weather so nice we decided to camp nearby at Melness.

We were really pleasantly suprised by the little campsite, sheltered in a small bay with only one neighbour for the night. After 4 persons-worth of pasta we retired to the beach for a beer and view of the stars. The lack of wind and rain made for a much better night sleep than in Thurso.
